Creative Workouts: Go Outside and Lift Stuff To Get In Shape!
If you are busy trying to figure out how to make your workouts more dynamic without the worry of having to know a lot of specific “techniques” in terms of your lifting program then all you need to do is go outside and tote stuff around! Thats right, its not rocket science. Walk out into your garage, your weight room, or basement and look for heavy and challenging objects to pick up and carry. All you have to do next is get them out into your front or back yard and practice walking around with them by either carrying them, dragging them, or pushing them.
For instance, if you have a wheel barrow simply throw some bags of fertilizer or feed in that sucker and run uphill with it! I promise your heart rate and body will not know the difference in the fact that you are using a wheel barrow over a speed sled. You can also bring out your weights (if you have any) to press overhead while you walk a designated distance. Get creative by utilizing what you have at your disposal. This is not only cheaper than buying brand new equipment, but it will force you to be more dynamic and innovative in your training!
As you embark on this new training design you can vary what you do by incorporating different types of movements when moving these objects around. In other words, you can go from pushing a wheel barrow to pulling a four wheeler ! You are basically integrating functionality into your strength training workouts. If you have weight training equipment you can do the same thing with kettlebells and plates. With these you can also press the weight up above your head and walk with it statically positioned or you can execute normal presses as you walk with the weight. You can do this on flat ground, but to make it more challenging start doing some of these up and down hills. This is the key to getting a truly fit and strong body.
If you haven’t already started to incorporate some totes into your strength and fitness program then get started. Take the time to learn more by accessing more of my articles on the subject for free. Remember that most anyone can train hard, but only the best train smart my friend!
