Frustration With Your Fitness?

Frustration With Your Fitness?

Are you frustrated with your fitness and lack of results?  I’ve got to vent a bit about why you are frustrated with your fitness.  If you are wondering why you might be failing at an attempt to lose weight, to get stronger, or to reduce the incidence of ailments and injury then you have arrived at the right place. If you want to know how to optimize your program then continue reading my friend.

First of all, the need for having a fit lifestyle is more important today than ever before. The health club industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, yet the U.S. is still the fattest country in the world. Why is this so? The bottom line is that people are NOT informed about how to train their bodies and live a lifestyle that is worthy of being fit.  Having been a professional trainer and strength and conditioning specialist here in Atlanta, Georgia now for over 10 years I can tell you that most people can’t perform the most basic actions involved in human movement. Ineffective program design, improper lifting techniques, and choice of diet are all factors that add up to failure when it comes to folks NOT getting the results that they desire the most. In addition to this most people fail to recognize the one element that can make all of this possible which is MENTAL TOUGHNESS.

In short, the key to getting results must involve you first seeking out the knowledge of what truly works.  The general mindset of the “health club” workout promotes the isolation and segmentalizing of muscle groups rather than focusing on movement based exercise.  The thing that folks have forgotten is that we are creatures of motion. Our bodies are designed to move and do work and this is something that the mind-numbing shiny machine has taken away from you if are one that is experiencing frustrations with your fitness program.  You have got to learn how to move your body and to do so effectively by using your own resistance and free weights. If you are not having to engage your mind while performing exercise then you might as well be sitting on the couch eating twinkies!  Instead of worrying about doing concentration curls on the bench get off of your rear and go do a set of pull ups. Not only will you work your arms, but you’ll engage your core, lats, shoulders, and break a sweat a hell of a lot faster which is a sign of  actually”working out!”

Of course lifestyle choice goes without saying. Its not rocket science when it comes to your choice of foods. It baffles me that people get so confused about diet and nutrition because you have really got to be doing something wrong with your food intake if you can’t lose any weight at all. Let me give you a concrete example. Ask yourself this question. Which is better for me, the snickers bar or the apple?  If you said apple then you do understand the difference between what food is bad and what food is good! If you apply this logic across the board on a consistent basis you will have yourself a pretty sound nutrition plan.

Now by getting yourself moving and engaging in multi-joint exercises (exercises that use more than one joint) you will achieve a much more profound result from your training. This is not easy and if anyone tells you that you can achieve the body of a Greek God or Goddess easily they are full of it. Exercise should be challenging, not easy. Now don’t confuse challenging with the fact that it has to be complicated like doing back flips, but it must be physically challenging to the degree that your heart rate and level of perceived exertion is increased. Breaking a sweat and breathing hard are good measures of an effective workout! By engaging in the most basic movements such as squats, push ups, and variations of these drills you will obtain tremendous results from your training and develop a resilient strong body that is resistant to weight gain and injury as long as you properly apply it.

In order to eliminate the frustration of your workouts you have got to train effectively and you have to have the mental toughness to do so on a regular basis.
