Loss Of Mobility=Diminishing Health

Loss Of Mobility=Diminishing Health

The lesson for today is mobility. I’m always hammering out the importance of mobility to all of my students and through my social media outlets on a regular basis. This is something that has to be addressed not only in the athletic realm, but in society on a constant basis as well. It really is a simple concept. Move and try to move well, period. This trumps how much weight one can lift or how fast one can run although being able to move and to move well also goes hand in hand with lifting heavier and running faster. It all goes together just like Batman and Robin, or Kim Kardashian and The Enquirer. Either way mobility and performance just fit together.

Weight Loss, Strength, And The Rest…

Yep, that’s the old scale underneath my feet! This morning it was registering out at a solid 206 lbs.! I’ve never really been too conscious of my weight. Like everyone else I know I’ve had fluctuations in the past due to a change in schedule, diet, the seasons, and my programming, but for the most part it’s been steady floating between 198 and 207 at any given time throughout the year. Bodyweight “specifically” has many variables that can influence it. Anything from body fat, water retention, muscle mass, and immediate food intake can play a big part in the variable of weight. So in the past few days I’d be lying if I told you I haven’t been thinking more and more about the process of innovation, especially as is pertains to a strength training environment and the availability of equipment. Look this past weekend my friend coach Brad McLeod (pictured above) and myself put on a very informative Kettlebell Power And Speed clinic in which one of the segments was devoted to innovation in terms of teaching one to utilize their surroundings and available resources for some hard hitting strength training tools and strength training tactics. I’ve got to tell you this segment was my favorite and I’ve got to give credit to Coach McLeod for bringing this to the table.

Die Hard Original 1988 First Advance Teaser US One Sheet

In a world where the explosion of technology has fostered the growth of a population plagued by obesity, poor posture, weakness, disease, functional imbalances, and overall mental decay I often feel like a lone cop stuck in a skyscraper on Christmas Eve with a bunch of terrorist. Ok maybe I’m going a bit overboard here, but I like to think that at least on some small level I can relate to Bruce Willis’s character John McClane in the movie Die Hard.

By the way this is a true iconic action flick if you haven’t seen it. I strongly suggest you do make time for this one if you are a fan of action heroes that like to dish out some serious ass kickings on their villain counterparts with some unforgettable style. Anyways, keep on reading if you want to see where I’m going with this.

Energy Drink Abuse?

Energy drinks

So the other day I had one of my dedicated students Ali come up to me and ask me to do a post on energy drinks. “Well what about them? I asked. Evidently he witnesses a great deal of athletes prior to coming into the gym drinking them like water. To my amazement I was like “What the hell?” Needless to say it supplied me with more content for this blog post so keep on reading if you are interested in learning more about the current energy drink frenzy.
